As shown in Fig. 2, bulk density of the research soil increased at the beginning of reclamation, and then decreased with the increase of reclamation years. At the beginning of reclamation, there are many deeply enrooted plant roots, such as wheatgrass. When the soil was reclaimed, it was ploughed deeply and roots were removed. The soil was very loose after plowing. Additionally, the soil had a great deal of plasma, serious salinization and soil hardening after irrigation. All of these resulted in bulk density increase after reclamation. As years passed,   soil salinization decreased, soil structure improved and bulk density decreased. In addition, there was great difference between the bulk densities of the two layers before reclamation. This might be attributed to grazing on the unreclaimed fields. Trampling by humans and livestock increased the bulk density. After reclamation, the two distinct layers formed one ploughed layer, therefore agricultural tillage decreased the difference.
